Performance evaluation of the combined process of ozonation, biological activated carbon reinforced by bacterial consortium, and ultrafiltration in greywater treatment

Background: Because of the growing population and increasing freshwater consumption, treatment reuse greywater have been widely considered. The application a new environmentally friendly method for synthetic real (RGW) is utmost importance. This study aimed to evaluate efficiency combination ozonation, biological activated carbon, ultrafiltration (O3 /BAC/UF) in removal chemical oxygen demand (COD), turbidity, five-day biochemical (BOD5 ), linear alkylbenzene sulfonates (LAS) from RGW. Methods: Bacillus Subtilis, Acinetobacter radioresistens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Ochrobactrum oryzae were selected nine pure bacterial species transferred granular carbon (GAC), then, mineral culture medium was added reactor growth establishment consortium. SEM employed ensure formation microbial layer on GAC. Then, continuous flow (for six months) at low: 6.1, medium: 12.2, high: 18.3 gCOD/L.d organic loading rates as well RGW two weeks) entered system. Results: percentages COD low, medium, high loads 85.12%, 79.05%, 85.3%, 98.65%, respectively. Moreover, BOD5 87%, 82%, 51%, 92%, Furthermore, turbidity 93.5%, 97%, 96.69%, 73.33%, LAS 91.4%, 88.1%, 84.8%, 93.7%, Conclusion: system has remarkable ability remove pollutants can be used Iran.
